College Essay Mentoring (High School)

Volunteers will engage with mentees 2-3 times a week via email, phone call, etc., to ensure that students have a competitive personal statement and college application. *The College Essay mentoring commitment lasts until the student has submitted their application(s). Mentors are paired 1 to 1 with a senior (unless they specify otherwise). Virtual Career Activities (Middle School and High School)
We are dedicated to making sure all the students at the schools we serve have the tools necessary to succeed in the ever-changing job force. We utilize career days, symposiums (focus on one company or career field) and other means to engage enthusiastic professionals in meaningful conversations about their career paths
Gender Based Programming (Middle School and High School)
Our Ladies’ First and XY Zone groups are a safe space for our case managed students to explore relationships, college and careers and community/school involvement. Students meet weekly through workshops, field trips and guest speakers around various topics of empowerment, gender identity pathways to success.
Elementary School Activities
As we expand our programming further into our elementary schools, we are creating impactful volunteer experiences with a focus on the digital space. As we begin to roll out these initiatives, we will be sure to engage you.
Volunteer Tutoring
CISLA Volunteer Tutoring is an opportunity for supporters who are interested in providing an extra level of support for students facing challenges with their classes. As we move towards distance learning, we hope to ensure that our students have access to the tools that will ensure their academic success.
In order to participate, we ask that you be able to donate at least one hour of your time a week.
Care Package Distribution
Help deliver supplies to the families that need it most in Los Angeles.
We recommend that care package distribution be no-touch deliveries. We can achieve this by dropping items at the front door and then text/call the family to let them know the package is outside. This is especially important for families receiving checks and gift cards. Please note that CIS of LA will provide you all with masks and gloves when you pick up care packages.
*Care package delivery happens every other Thursday starting October 1. (10/15, 10/29, 11/12, 12/3, 12/17)
